  • Client Background

  • Royal Holloway University is one of the largest colleges in the University of London. With an excellent reputation for teaching and research, the campus in Egham serves around 9,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Modelled on a red brick copy of a French chateau, the iconic Founder’s building, at the heart of campus life in halls, was opened in 1886 by Queen Victoria. Home to some 500 undergraduates, Founder’s hall offers a mixture of single and twin bedrooms in single gender corridors. As part of a refurbishment programme, all 497 student bedrooms required refurnishing.

    • Storage bed unit with mattress and fixed headboard

    • Wall-mounted bookcase

    • Pedestal desk and lamp

    • Student chair

    • Vanity unit, sink and taps

The refit had to be completed out of term time within the summer holidays.

  • Outcome

  • Despite being the oldest residential building, the Founder’s Hall bedroom refit has transformed the quality of accommodation. With attractive living areas, the college is able to compete to attract students from around the world to study at Royal Holloway.
