• Leading social housing developer, Markey Construction, has started work on a £1.4 million project to build ten affordable homes next to a Bristol church.
Carried out on behalf of Elim Housing Association, the development at the Victoria Park Baptist Church in Knowle will also see Markey build a new church hall to replace the existing, ageing community building on the site.
The scheme, which has been designed by Bristol-based Quattro Design Architects, is scheduled for completion in June 2014.
It is the second development of its kind that Gloucester-based Markey Construction has carried out for Elim – a project to build a new church hall and 12 flats at St Hilda’s in Gloucester was completed in May 2011.
Richard Dudgeon, Managing Director of Markey Construction, said: “It’s great to be working with Elim again and we’re glad things are under way.
“Our first project for Elim was a huge success and I’ve no doubt this scheme will breathe new life into the site, benefiting the church and proving a real asset to the local community.”
It’s a view that’s shared by Elim Housing. Commenting on the decision to appoint Markey Construction for the scheme, Jayne Williams, Head of Development for Elim Housing said: “The local residents and Elim were very pleased with the new church hall and flats Markey developed in Gloucester and hope that the Bristol scheme will be as successful and provide a similar benefit to the local community.”
