  • Markey Construction is celebrating after receiving two awards which recognise its positive impact on the community.

The Hardwicke firm has been commended in the 2014 Cheltenham Civic Awards while also picking up a bronze award in the national Considerate Constructors’ Scheme.

Success in the civic awards was for Markey’s work on the Alpha House scheme which saw the construction of a new Tesco Express and 12 apartments on the town’s Queen’s Road.

Judges felt the scheme had made a “considerable improvement” to the environment opposite Cheltenham’s railway station.

The Considerate Constructor award recognised Markey Construction’s management of a project to build 21 affordable homes at Kings Stanley near Stroud.Following two monitoring visits, the company obtained an excellent ranking across five criteria which included respecting the community, protecting the environment and caring for the workforce.

Richard Dudgeon, Managing Director of Markey Construction, said: “Wherever work takes place we go the extra mile to protect the environment and minimise disruption to residents. Our aim is always to produce high-quality buildings that people will be proud of,
so we’re delighted that our efforts have been recognised.”
