  • Staff at Hardwicke-based furniture manufacturer Premiere worked extra hours to ensure a major scheme for the University of London’s Royal Holloway College was delivered on time and on budget.

Over an eight-week period, the dedicated team worked additional shifts and nights at Premiere’s purpose-built factory to design and manufacture bespoke furniture for 493 student bedrooms.

As a thank you, Premiere’s co-owner Paul Markey recognised their efforts by arranging for almost 50 staff to attend Gloucester’s recent game against Sale Sharks.

“Over the past 20 years, Premiere has established a great reputation for designing and manufacturing kitchens, but this was our first large student furniture project,” said Paul.

“It was a bespoke design and the production timescales were challenging but, as always, the team pulled together and the customer was absolutely delighted with the end result.”

“We’re a close-knit, family-run business and our success is down to the commitment and determination of our fantastic people. We have strong links with the rugby club so arranging a trip to the game seemed the perfect way of saying thank you.”

And the company’s links with the club don’t just end with support for their local team. Paul Markey’s son, James, has recently followed in his father’s entrepreneurial footsteps by setting up a business selling nutritional products and he is currently supplying the Gloucester Rugby team with all of its nutritional supplements.

Paul concluded: “Within Premiere and the wider Markey family, rugby is a real passion and it’s great to be able to combine business with pleasure on such a large scale!”
